The European Union and Canada have publicly praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in facilitating US–Iran peace negotiations, according to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, following high-level telephone discussions with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
During a call with EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas, Pakistan’s foreign minister briefed her on developments from the recent Islamabad talks involving the United States and Iran. Kallas commended Pakistan’s “constructive role” in facilitating direct negotiations and stressed the importance of continued dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the conflict.
Both sides also agreed to maintain close communication amid ongoing regional tensions and reaffirmed growing cooperation between Pakistan and the EU across multiple areas of mutual interest.
In a separate conversation, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand also acknowledged Pakistan’s role in enabling dialogue during the Islamabad talks. She emphasized the importance of all parties adhering to the ceasefire framework and supported continued diplomatic engagement.
Pakistan reiterated its commitment to supporting negotiations and maintaining stability in the region, underscoring that sustained diplomacy remains essential for preventing further escalation.
These diplomatic exchanges come shortly after marathon US–Iran negotiations held in Islamabad failed to produce a final agreement, despite extended discussions lasting more than 20 hours. The talks focused on ending hostilities, stabilizing energy routes, and addressing regional security concerns.
The conflict between Washington and Tehran has significantly impacted global energy markets and intensified geopolitical tensions across the Middle East. The situation has also drawn in multiple regional actors, with diplomatic efforts increasingly centered on preventing further escalation and ensuring maritime stability.
Conclusion: Pakistan Positioned as Key Diplomatic Bridge Amid Global Tensions
The recognition from both the European Union and Canada highlights Pakistan’s emerging role as a facilitator of dialogue in one of the world’s most sensitive geopolitical crises. While negotiations between the US and Iran remain unresolved, international stakeholders continue to rely on backchannel diplomacy to maintain momentum toward de-escalation.
