Saudi Civil Defense said Saturday that fragments from an intercepted ballistic missile injured a resident and damaged civilian property in the southern Asir Province, as Iran-backed Houthi attacks on the kingdom continued overnight.
What Civil Defense reported
According to Al Arabiya, citing Saudi Civil Defense, fragments of an intercepted ballistic missile injured an Asian resident, damaged a prayer room and a number of vehicles in Asir. Officials said emergency teams responded in Ahad Rafidah governorate after the debris fell following the interception.
Al Jazeera’s Iran war live blog similarly reported that Saudi Arabia said debris from an intercepted ballistic missile fell in southern Asir, injuring a resident in Ahad Rafidah. Both outlets attributed the account to Saudi authorities; they did not independently verify the launch origin beyond those official statements.
Wider wave of incidents
Al Arabiya said several Houthi attacks late Friday and early Saturday caused injury and damage to civilian property and infrastructure in Saudi Arabia. Earlier on Friday, Saudi Civil Defense reported that a Houthi projectile struck a school in Najran, causing material damage, with no casualties reported in that separate incident.
The Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthis also said Friday it intercepted three ballistic missiles and several drones targeting the southwestern city of Khamis Mushait, according to the same reporting.
Regional context
The incidents come as fighting intensifies in Yemen between the Iran-aligned Houthis and forces loyal to Yemen’s internationally recognised government, and as the wider United States–Israel war with Iran continues to disrupt the region.
Houthi media earlier Saturday claimed Saudi aircraft carried out dozens of strikes on the Houthi-held capital Sanaa — claims The Candor Post reported separately — while government-aligned Yemeni forces said they were hitting what they called legitimate military targets in and around Houthi areas.
Saudi authorities have not announced further casualty figures beyond the Asir injury cited by Civil Defense. Claims that the intercepted missile was launched by the Houthis follow Saudi official statements; independent confirmation of launch details was not immediately available in the cited reports.
