Three Israeli soldiers and a civilian are expected to face espionage charges after allegedly maintaining long term contact with individuals linked to Iran, according to a joint statement issued by Israeli security authorities.
The suspects include three soldiers training at an Israeli Air Force technical school. Investigators allege the group knowingly conducted intelligence gathering activities on behalf of Iranian handlers over an extended period.
Authorities stated that the soldiers had reportedly been in contact with the Iranian linked operative before joining the military, while they were still minors.
According to the investigation, the suspects were instructed to photograph military related locations, including areas within their training facilities. They are also accused of documenting public locations such as train stations, shopping centres, and security camera installations.
Security officials further claimed that the group was asked to purchase weapons on behalf of their handler, although investigators said it remains unclear whether the suspects agreed to carry out that request.
The case is being handled jointly by the Israel Defense Forces, the Shin Bet, and the Israel Police.
State prosecutors are expected to formally indict the four suspects later today through the Haifa District Attorney’s Office.
The arrests come amid growing concerns within Israel over alleged Iranian recruitment efforts targeting Israeli citizens and military personnel through online communication channels and financial incentives.
