The United States maintains a naval blockade of Iranian ports and has not launched strikes on Iranian targets since September 1, according to reporting by Al Arabiya and other outlets. Commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz continues to face projectile attacks reported by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations centre.
Trump has repeatedly said in recent days that the war could end “very soon,” including after the midterms, while also telling Time magazine that renewed US military action after the November elections remains “possible” if no acceptable agreement is reached.
Iranian officials have denied that Tehran has abandoned its nuclear programme and have continued to press conditions for reopening Hormuz, including sanctions relief, according to prior reporting by Al Jazeera and Reuters. Neither Fox News Digital nor Middle East Eye reported an immediate Iranian government response to Trump’s Saturday remarks.
Claims about Iran’s nuclear status reflect statements by US officials and have not been independently verified in this report.
