Trump said 18 US service members had been killed during the more than six-month conflict, a figure Fox News said was reflected across the Pentagon's separate casualty categories.
"Iran, we've lost 18 incredible people, 18 and we've been there for a little more than six months," he told the Mobile crowd, according to Fox News.
He argued Iran would need years to rebuild from US strikes: "They should have negotiated. They played their cards too tough," Iran International reported.
Who to deal with in Tehran
Trump again questioned who in Tehran Washington could negotiate with. "I don't know who the hell to deal with. There's nobody to deal with. Nobody wants to be president. I say, who do I speak to in Iran? … Knock knock, nobody home," he said, according to Middle East Eye.
The comments come amid stalled diplomacy over the Strait of Hormuz and reports that the administration is weighing whether to resume major combat operations if no deal is reached. Trump did not announce a new military order in Mobile.
